How much of our choice is truly ours?
Shopping online, choosing a subscription or assessing a product claim are part of everyday life. Yet having access to information does not necessarily mean we can notice, understand and use it when it matters. The way offers are presented, preselected options, time pressure and complex purchasing processes can all shape our decisions.
COMPASS explores how to help consumers make choices that reflect their own needs and priorities in digital environments. We develop and test decision-support tools that make offers easier to understand and compare while preserving freedom of choice.
Understanding decisions
We investigate when and why consumers struggle to put their knowledge into practice in digital environments.
Testing solutions
Through experiments, we examine which forms of support help consumers understand information and make informed decisions.
Preserving autonomy
We explore how to provide useful, transparent support while keeping consumers in control of their choices.
